A review of Whitburn Lodge by GMT written on Monday 13th of June 2011
Called in at this pub on spec last Sunday for lunch, I wished I hadn't.
I should've acted on my first instinct and kept on going, especially when I saw the graffiti scratched on our table (adolf, chris etc.)
We were 3 adults and 2 small children, two of us ordered chicken, one had beef and the kids also had chicken. Firstly, the chicken had been cooked in the microwave which had left a white scum over the chicken, the veg consisted of cauliflower, carrots (undrained), mashed potato, mushy peas (which smelled and tasted of fish), stuffing balls and roast potatoes both of which were frozen and inedible. All of the meals came with a yorkshire pudding which were burnt on the ouside and a half inch of uncooked batter on the inside. The only good thing I can say is that the gravy was good. My beef dinner consisted of one slice measuring 3 ins by 3ins and wasn't too bad. At a cost of £6.95 a head per adult and £3.95 for children, I think this meal was one of the worst meals, I have had. Over 50% of the food was left. When I was presented with the bill, I voiced my concerns to the landlady, she said that no one else had complained and she flatly refused to reduce the bill. She said that no one had esked us to eat there and if we didn't like it , tough.
I saw I sign when we left stating that the pub is under new management, I think this pub is doomed to fail on many levels
