A review of Little Sisters Of The Poor by KATHLEEN DOVER written on Sunday 9th of November 2008

My mother entered the Little Sisters after debilitating illness made worse by inadequate care at overburdened hospitals. From the first day she appeared to take on a cloak of contentment and peace. Her health steadily improved and the personality we knew returned and she became a much brighter happier person. During the course of her stay here she has experienced some health issues (flue bronchitus etc) which while not serious, to an elderly person can be life threatening. There is no doubt in my mind that had she not been in such a facility as this but perhaps in a lay facility she would not have survived. The Sisters and their staff care and attention have enabled us to enjoy our mother without any worry - perhaps this is one of the greatest gifts of all. Each time we visit which is often we have never seen or heard anything in 6 years that would lead us to feel we had left mum in the wrong environment.

My only regret is that the resources are limited and the sisters cannot take another 50 people in need - it isnt easy to get in and there is a long waiting list - I wish there were another dozen facilities like this .
