A review of Radio Tyneside by Mike and Viv Short written on Thursday 13th of May 2010
Hi
My husband was staioned at RAF Waterbeach Cambs. from 1952/6. His beast mate was Harry ? from Newcastle but they didnt keep in touch. Now we are on a mission to find him .
Hee was born about 1932 and was at Raf Waterbeach from about 1952/4 and when he was demobbed he went back to Newcastle. We know he was in Newcastle later in the 50s as when 56 Squadron went to RAF Acklington each year some of the blokes went into Newcastle one evening and by chance met up with Harry. My husband stayed on camp so missed seeing him.
His claim to fame was his BSA Motorbike with a sidecar. Most airman then didnt have motorised transport. A Malcolm Jones remembers travelling in the sidecar to Newark when Harry was going home for New Year 1953.
We have photos of Harry and the bike also some of him with our baby son Steve who is now Deputy Head in a Primary School in Somerset.
Im sure if I was writing a Review about your staion it would be a good one.
Many thanks even if you have to pass this on.
Regards Mike and Viv Short.
